Welcome
The Ragdoll Cat - an Urban myth ?
During the early '60 Anne Baker of Riverside California "designed" the cat of
her dreams and named the breed
Ragdoll
. Although Ms. Baker was very secretive about the cats she used in her breeding
programs, the results are indisputable !
When the cats were first introduced to the Cat Fancy there were many strange
tales. Gentle temperment caused by brain damage to a foundation cat named
Josephine is one of the many that flournished.
Science and genetics confirm that the loving, large silky Ragdoll of today may
owe it's laidback temperment to genetics but not genetic engineering (the skunk
gene myth) or to brain damage
Ragdolls are large , blue eyed, colourpointed cats occuring in the same colours
found in Siamese and Himalayan cats - seal, blue, chocolate, lilac and the red
series. Cats with these colours but no additional white are called
colourpoints. Mitted and bicolours ragdolls have been garnished with some
specially placed white accents ! And the pattern known as lynxpoint can be
any of the above with a delicate overlay of tabby markings - like a fine lace
tablecloth patterned after a Tabby.
